The Indian government is encouraging spice exports, such as turmeric, via the "Sustainability in Spice Sector through Progressive, Innovative and Collaborative Interventions for Export Development (SPICED)" initiative, which is executed by the Spices Board. This initiative encompasses several programs designed to enhance exports, including the establishment of food safety and quality assurance systems, aiding in post-harvest quality improvements, offering support for processing and value enhancement, and conducting training workshops for participants to elevate quality and promote entrepreneurship. The National Turmeric Board has various goals, such as encouraging the creation of new products and adding value to turmeric, enhancing awareness and usage of turmeric products in global markets, and supporting market research in promising international markets. It also aims to enhance infrastructure and logistics for turmeric exportation, establish resilient and sustainable supply chains, and guarantee adherence to quality and safety regulations. Additional objectives of the Board include enhancing capacity building and skill enhancement for turmeric farmers, reinforcing the recording of traditional knowledge associated with turmeric, and fostering research and studies on its health benefits. Since 2020, the leading importers of Indian turmeric are Bangladesh, the UAE, the USA, Malaysia, and Morocco. India's proportion of global turmeric exports has consistently been robust, fluctuating between 58% and 66% from 2020 to 2024. The peak export value occurred in 2024, reaching US$333.25 million.
