The Indian Railways is set to achieve a significant milestone in its upgrade efforts by constructing the initial High-Speed Test Track, projected to be finished by March 2026. The Research, Designs, and Standards Organisation (RDSO), part of North Western Railway (NWR), has initiated a new project to be built between Gudha and Thathana Mithri in Rajasthan's Jodhpur division, with an estimated cost of approximately Rs. 967 crores (US$117 million). The latest initiative is projected to cover 64 km and accommodate a top speed of 220 kmph, facilitating thorough testing of the train at these elevated speeds. Upon completion and activation, it will improve Indian Railways' ability to assess safety and stability metrics, along with the operational traits of upcoming rail transport generations, expected to run at increased speeds. Located approximately 70 km from Jaipur, this route showcases India's commitment to advancing rail technology and infrastructure. Additionally, it would enable testing of track dynamics and signalling, along with maintenance methods, thus hastening advancements towards a quicker rail system for India. Moreover, it would align with initiatives aimed at enhancing rail connectivity and improving the overall travel experience for passengers.
