Union Minister of Commerce and Industry Mr. Piyush Goyal, while on an official trip to France, spoke at the India-France Business Conference, highlighting the 'India Opportunity' which is supported by a skilled workforce, strong domestic fundamentals, and the government's dedication to improving the business environment. He urged Indian and French businesses to enhance their collaboration by utilizing their mutual strengths. He pointed out that increased business-to-business interactions will further strengthen the strategic partnership between the two countries. He also co-chaired the India-France CEO Forum Small Group Meeting in Paris alongside French Minister Delegate for Foreign Trade and French Nationals Abroad, Mr. Laurent Saint-Martin, where topics such as technology, artificial intelligence (AI), education, and startups were discussed. In other significant discussions, he met with the Director General of the World Trade Organization (WTO), Mr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, reaffirming India’s dedication to a fair, inclusive, and rules-based multilateral trading system. He also engaged in bilateral discussions with Saudi Arabia’s Minister of Commerce, Mr. Majid Al-Kassabi, to seek new investment opportunities and enhance economic cooperation. In a separate meeting with Mr. Laurent Saint-Martin, both leaders assessed trade and investment relations, focusing on improving business collaboration and establishing technology as a central element of the Indo-French economic partnership, especially with the upcoming India-France Year of Innovation 2026 in mind. The visit also featured a review of the current negotiations for the India-European Union Free Trade Agreement (FTA), reinforcing the mutual commitment to innovation-led growth and economic progress.
