Karur Vysya Bank profit jumps 37% in Q2 2026

The Karur Vysya Bank Limited (NSE: KARURVYSYA) reported Q2 FY27 net profit of ₹787.7 crore, up 37.3% year-on-year. Advances increased 20.4% to approximately ₹1.12 lakh crore, while deposits grew 16% to ₹1.28 lakh crore. The combination of strong loan growth and improving asset quality makes this result worth tracking. Gross NPAs declined to 0.69%, while net NPAs stood at 0.18%. However, there is an important detail behind the 37% profit growth. Provisions and contingencies declined to ₹118.5 crore from ₹274.4 crore in the year-ago quarter. That means the improvement in profitability was supported partly by lower provisioning costs, not just stronger core banking income. Net interest income grew approximately 19%, which is encouraging. But I would be careful about extrapolating the headline profit growth unless the bank can sustain its lending momentum without weakening underwriting standards. There is also a funding consideration. Advances are growing faster than deposits. The current gap is manageable, but if it persists, the bank may need to compete more aggressively for deposits, potentially increasing its funding costs. The next test is whether Karur Vysya Bank can sustain loan growth while protecting margins and maintaining its low level of bad loans. What I am watching next: - Whether deposit growth begins to catch up with loan growth. - Net interest margin in Q3 FY27. - Gross NPA remaining below 1%.
