Transformers & Rectifiers profit jumps 118%

Transformers and Rectifiers (India) Limited (NSE: TARIL) reported Q2 FY27 consolidated net profit of ₹81.38 crore, up 118% year-on-year. Revenue increased 61% to ₹739.44 crore, while the unexecuted order book reached ₹7,237 crore, up 32% year-on-year. The combination of strong revenue growth and a growing order book makes this result worth tracking. Demand for transformers is supported by investment in power transmission, grid modernisation and renewable energy infrastructure. The company's order inflow reached ₹1,169 crore during the quarter. Its manufacturing expansion at Changodar is also nearing completion, with commercial production expected around Diwali. But there is an important distinction between order-book growth and shareholder returns. A large order book provides revenue visibility, but it also creates an execution challenge. Transformers are complex industrial products, and delays, cost overruns or working-capital requirements can affect how much reported growth eventually converts into cash. The sharp increase in profit is encouraging, but I would want to see whether margins remain sustainable as the company executes a larger volume of orders. Capacity expansion will help only if additional production generates attractive returns on capital. My view: TARIL is benefiting from a favourable power infrastructure investment cycle. The 32% growth in its order book supports the medium-term revenue outlook, but execution and cash conversion will determine whether the current earnings momentum can continue. What I am watching next: - Commercial production at Changodar around Diwali. - Execution of the ₹7,237 crore order book over the next 18 to 24 months. - Quarterly operating margins and working-capital requirements. Stance: Positive on the operating momentum, but sustained profitability and cash generation are the next confirmation points.
