Hero Motors extends gains after IPO listing

Hero Motors Limited (NSE: HEROMOTORS) closed at ₹118.08 on September 25, around 40% above its IPO issue price of ₹84. The ₹1,000 crore IPO had been subscribed 6.66 times before listing. Key details • IPO price band was ₹79 to ₹84 per share. • At the upper end, the company was valued at around ₹3,815 crore. • The issue included a ₹600 crore fresh issue and ₹400 crore offer for sale. • Retail subscription was 8.23 times, while the NII portion was subscribed 9.86 times. • The stock closed at ₹118.08 on September 25, nearly 40% above the IPO price. My view The post-listing move is strong, especially considering the IPO was not priced at a deep discount. But after a sharp move in the first few sessions, price momentum alone is not enough to judge the business. The next phase should be about whether earnings growth can justify the higher valuation. The fresh capital gives Hero Motors additional financial resources, but execution and return on that capital will matter more than the listing performance. What I’m watching next I will watch the first quarterly result after listing, margin trend and how the ₹600 crore fresh issue proceeds are deployed. Stance: Strong listing momentum, but I would focus on earnings delivery and valuation after the initial price move. Disclosure: I do not have any holding or position in the stock mentioned above.
