Metropolis Healthcare: Fundamentals Under Pressure, But Eyes Still on Sector Potential

Metropolis Healthcare

METROPOLIS
has been facing headwinds lately, with its financials painting a cautious picture for investors. The company's Return on Capital Employed (RoCE) has been declining, suggesting inefficient use of capital to generate profits. Its quarterly EPS and net profits have both fallen for the last two consecutive quarters, indicating continued margin and earnings pressure. Despite these concerns, the stock is trading above its 20 and 50-day moving averages, hinting at some short-term technical strength. However, it remains below its 200 DMA, which suggests that long-term sentiment is still weak. On the ownership side, promoters reduced their stake slightly from 49.40% to 48.90% in the March 2025 quarter. FIIs also cut their holdings from 16.73% to 15.29%, while DIIs marginally increased their exposure from 30.00% to 30.30%. Public shareholding has risen from 3.34% to 3.84%, indicating rising retail interest, possibly due to attractive valuations. Over the last three years, Metropolis has delivered a modest 6.56% revenue CAGR, while net profit has actually shrunk by 11.29% CAGR and operating profit is down by 0.71% CAGR – not very reassuring for growth-focused investors. While the diagnostics sector in India holds long-term potential due to rising healthcare awareness and preventive testing, Metropolis will need to prove its ability to bounce back operationally and regain investor confidence. Until then, caution is warranted.
