reported a sharp improvement in Q1 FY27 profitability, but the revenue growth story remains more moderate. The stock was around ₹471 on October 1, close to its recent highs.
What happened
Q1 FY27 revenue increased 5.6% year on year to ₹206.96 crore. Operating profit rose 4.5% to ₹30.96 crore, while profit after tax increased 2.0% to ₹20.91 crore. Operating margin was 14.96%.
**Why the next quarter matters**
The more interesting signal is the September quarter. The available quarterly data shows revenue at ₹242.43 crore, up 23.2% year on year, while operating income rose 67.9% year on year to ₹38.34 crore. Net profit increased 79.5% to ₹25.31 crore.
That is a much stronger sequential picture than Q1 and suggests operating leverage may be improving.
**My view**
I would not judge SMS Pharma only on the Q1 number. The improvement visible in the September-quarter data is more encouraging. However, the stock has already moved close to its recent high, so the next question is whether higher revenue can sustain margins and cash generation.
**What I am watching**
Revenue growth, operating margin, export performance and whether the September-quarter profitability improvement continues into the second half of FY27.
**Stance:** Positive on the earnings trend, but I would wait for confirmation that the margin improvement is sustainable.
