Where Could India’s Next Big Growth Story Come From?
The Indian stock market is going through an interesting phase. While the benchmark Nifty has faced pressure in 2026, several structural themes are showing strong earnings and investment momentum. This divergence is creating a market where stock selection is becoming more important than simply following the index.
One of the biggest themes currently attracting attention is the AI infrastructure ecosystem. Interestingly, the opportunity is not limited to traditional technology companies. Power generation, transmission equipment, data centres, optical fibre, electronics manufacturing and semiconductor-related businesses are increasingly becoming part of India’s AI story. Goldman Sachs recently highlighted a basket of 42 Indian AI-enabler companies, with power, data-centre infrastructure and semiconductor-related businesses among the key areas of interest.
Another major theme is India’s next capex and manufacturing cycle. Semiconductor manufacturing, electronics, aerospace, defence, solar manufacturing and data centres are attracting investment, creating potential opportunities across the industrial ecosystem.
However, investors should not confuse a strong theme with a guaranteed multibagger. Valuation remains a critical factor. Recent market commentary shows that midcap and smallcap valuations are considerably higher than largecaps, while some thematic stocks are already pricing in aggressive future growth.
The current market environment therefore demands a different approach: look beyond the stock price and study revenue growth, earnings visibility, margins, cash flows, debt, order book, capital expenditure, competitive advantage and valuation.
