HDFC BANK Q1 FY27 RESULTS: POST-RESULT OUTLOOK

HDFCBANK
’s Q1 FY27 performance has delivered a mixed-to-negative surprise, with profit and NII missing expectations while NIMs slipped to a record low. The key concern is margin pressure, which can limit near-term earnings momentum. However, the bank’s long-term fundamentals remain supported by its strong franchise, balance sheet and scale. The market’s next focus will be on management commentary regarding margin recovery, deposit growth and loan growth. Technically, the stock is currently trading near ₹820 and has reclaimed the 50/100-day moving average zone around ₹800–813, while the 200-DMA is placed near ₹886. RSI around 59 indicates improving momentum, but the stock still faces a major hurdle near ₹850–885. A sustained close above ₹830–850 can trigger a relief rally towards ₹870–885, and a decisive breakout above ₹885 can improve the larger trend towards ₹930–950. On the downside, ₹800 is the immediate and crucial support. A close below ₹800 can bring selling pressure towards ₹780–760, while a decisive breakdown below ₹760 would weaken the recovery structure and could push the stock towards ₹720–700. For existing investors: No panic selling is warranted solely on the basis of one weak quarter, but fresh aggressive averaging should be avoided until margins show signs of stabilisation. Investors with a long-term horizon can continue to hold, while using meaningful declines near ₹780–760 for staggered accumulation, subject to risk tolerance. For new investors: The preferred stance is WAIT & WATCH. Fresh entry can be considered on a sustained breakout above ₹850, or through staggered buying near strong supports around ₹780–760. Near-term volatility is likely to remain high as the market reassesses the impact of record-low margins on future earnings.
