Nifty Metal Index Outlook | Sector Showing Signs of a Fresh Breakout

The Nifty Metal Index is witnessing a strong recovery after nearly six weeks of consolidation. The index has reclaimed its 10, 20 and 50-day EMAs, while continuing to trade comfortably above the 100 and 200-day moving averages, indicating that the broader primary uptrend remains intact. Momentum indicators have also turned supportive, with the RSI climbing above 59 and MACD confirming a bullish crossover, suggesting improving buying strength. A sustained move above 13,150 could trigger fresh momentum towards the 13,500–14,000 zone, while 12,650–12,700 remains the immediate support area. Fundamentally, the sector continues to benefit from robust domestic demand. India's infrastructure spending, railway expansion, housing projects and manufacturing growth are driving higher steel consumption, with India expected to remain the fastest-growing steel market globally in 2026. The government's three-year safeguard duty on select steel imports has improved pricing power for domestic producers by reducing the impact of cheaper overseas imports, while authorities continue to closely monitor import volumes to support the domestic industry. The sector is also receiving long-term support from ongoing capacity expansion and raw material security initiatives. Steel producers are investing in higher-value products, expanding production capacities and securing raw material supplies, reflecting confidence in the long-term demand outlook. Strong government focus on infrastructure and capital expenditure is expected to keep demand for steel and other industrial metals healthy over the coming quarters. Overall, the combination of an improving technical structure, supportive policy measures, resilient domestic demand and continued industry expansion suggests that the Nifty Metal Index is well positioned for another leg of the uptrend. As long as the index sustains above the 12,650–12,700 support zone, the broader bias remains positive.
