War-Led Uncertainty Weighs on NIFTY: 200 EMA Breakdown Signals Caution
The NIFTY 50 has delivered a technically weak signal by closing below its 200-day EMA, indicating deterioration in the medium-term trend. The index is also trading below its 20-day and 50-day EMAs, confirming short-term bearish momentum and lack of buying strength on pullbacks. This alignment of moving averages suggests that rallies are likely to face resistance unless strong triggers emerge.
The immediate support stands at 24,900, positioned just below the psychological 25,000 mark. A decisive break below this level may accelerate momentum-based selling, as stop losses could get triggered. The next major support is at 24,600, which remains a crucial structural level. A breakdown below 24,600 may confirm a broader bearish phase, shifting sentiment from corrective weakness to trend reversal. On the upside, only a sustained daily close above 25,350 can trigger short covering and provide relief. If reclaimed convincingly, the 25,800–26,000 zone could open up; however, the probability currently appears limited given prevailing macro risks.
The primary external trigger remains crude oil. Rising oil prices increase India’s import bill, pressure the rupee, and elevate inflation expectations, which may restrict monetary flexibility. Higher crude also compresses margins for consumption-driven sectors and can trigger foreign institutional outflows in a risk-off environment.
In a rising crude scenario, upstream producers such as Oil and Natural Gas Corporation and Oil India Limited may outperform due to improved realizations. Select energy plays like Reliance Industries Limited could remain relatively resilient depending on refining margins. Conversely, aviation, paints, FMCG, and logistics may face pressure from higher input costs.
Overall, unless 25,350 is reclaimed, the structure favors a cautious, sell-on-rise approach.
