BASF
🔍 Key Business & Financials BASF’s 2024 earnings were somewhat mixed. Some core segments did well, raising EBITDA, but others were hit by higher costs, especially energy and raw materials. For Q2 2025, revenues slipped slightly year-on-year, largely due to negative currency effects and lower prices in its Chemicals segment. Volumes improved in some areas like Agricultural Solutions and Surface Technologies. Because of weakening conditions in certain chemical markets, BASF has revised downward its full-year EBITDA guidance (before special items). 🛠 Strategic Moves BASF is selling a majority stake in its coatings business (especially automotive coatings) to Carlyle. BASF will retain a sizable minority interest. The sale is part of its strategy to focus on fewer core assets. The company is pushing forward on restructuring efforts in Europe to trim costs and boost profitability. This includes potential plant shutdowns of underperforming units or units with outdated tech. It has reaffirmed its medium-term financial goals (through 2028), including certain dividend levels and planned share buybacks. 🌱 Innovation, Sustainability & Products BASF is launching more natural-based and biodegradable ingredient solutions, especially in personal care, to respond to consumer demand for sustainable and “cleaner” products. There’s progress on sites in Asia-Pacific, including new production / petrochemical complex milestones. Also, more “biomass-balanced” chemicals (partly from renewable sources) are entering its supply chain and product line. In India, BASF is involved in sustainable agriculture initiatives, like climate-smart rice farming, and launching new crop protection innovations (insecticides/fungicides) aimed at boosting yields while managing environmental impact.
