UJJIVANSFB
✅ What Ujjivan SFB Does Ujjivan Small Finance Bank evolved from a microfinance institution and now operates as a full-fledged small finance bank. It focuses heavily on lending to underserved and lower-income segments — microloans, small business loans, group loans, micro-mortgages, and MSME lending. It also collects deposits through branches and digital channels. ⭐ Strengths 1. Strong microfinance presence Deep experience and high penetration in micro-lending gives it a stable core customer base. 2. Good growth in secured lending Ujjivan has been expanding in micro-mortgages and MSME loans, reducing dependence on pure microfinance. 3. Improving asset quality trend Over the years, the bank has been showing better control over NPAs compared to earlier difficult periods. 4. Digital + physical model Strong branch network plus digital onboarding, digital collections, and vernacular-friendly apps. 5. Healthy capital position (in general) Small finance banks are required to maintain strong capital, and Ujjivan has typically maintained adequate buffers. ⚠️ Challenges / Risks 1. High exposure to unsecured microloans This segment is very sensitive to economic slowdown, local disruptions, and borrower income volatility. 2. Funding cost is relatively high Its CASA ratio (cheap deposits) tends to be lower than large banks, raising overall funding cost. 3. Geographic concentration risk Some states contribute a large share of the loan book, making it vulnerable to regional disruptions. 4. Competition Faces strong competition from other SFBs, NBFC-MFIs, fintech lenders, and even large banks entering small-ticket lending. 5. Credit cost volatility Any stress in microfinance can quickly raise provisioning and reduce profitability.
