What is the role of a stock broker in trading?

A stock broker is a financial professional who acts as an intermediary between investors and the stock market. They facilitate the buying and selling of stocks, bonds, and other securities on behalf of their clients. Brokers can either work on a full-service or discount basis. Full-service brokers offer personalized investment advice, research, and financial planning services, which come with higher fees. Discount brokers, on the other hand, offer lower commission rates but provide fewer services, typically focusing solely on executing orders. In addition to executing trades, brokers also help ensure compliance with regulations and provide investors with real-time market information. For retail investors, online brokers have made it easier and cheaper to trade stocks through digital platforms, offering tools like charting, analysis, and trading simulations. Brokers earn commissions or fees from the trades they execute, and some may also charge for additional services like margin lending or portfolio management.
