Adani Group Expands Energy Portfolio with Hybrid and Thermal Power Projects

Adani Green Energy Limited (AGEL) has commissioned a 50 MW solar–wind hybrid project in Khavda, Gujarat, through its step-down subsidiary, Adani Renewable Energy Three. The plant, operational from August 8, 2025, has boosted AGEL’s total renewable capacity to 15,865.5 MW, reinforcing its position as India’s leading renewable energy player. In a separate development, Adani Power secured a Letter of Intent (LoI) on August 7 from Bihar State Power Generation Company (BSPGCL) to develop a 2,400 MW (net 2,274 MW) greenfield thermal power plant in Pirpainti, Bhagalpur, Bihar. The project will be executed under the DBFOO (Design, Build, Finance, Own, Operate) model and supply power to NBPDCL and SBPDCL at a competitive tariff of ₹6.075 per unit, the lowest in the tender. Valued at around $3 billion, the plant will be built in three phases, with commissioning scheduled within 48, 54, and 60 months, respectively. It will use ultra-supercritical technology for higher efficiency and lower emissions, with coal supplied under the government’s SHAKTI policy. The dual developments underscore the Adani Group’s aggressive expansion across both renewable and thermal power, reinforcing its role as a key player in India’s energy transition and infrastructure growth.
