What "Block Deal" and "Bulk Deal" Headlines Actually Mean

Headlines like "block deal in Reliance shares" sound dramatic, but they just describe how a large trade was executed, not a signal about the company itself. A bulk deal is a single trade over 0.5% of total shares, done through the regular exchange window, just unusually large. A block deal is similar in scale, but happens through a separate window letting big investors trade huge quantities at one negotiated price without disrupting the market. $RELIANCE sees these deals fairly often, given how widely it's institutionally held, so a headline about one shouldn't trigger alarm or excitement by itself. These deals confirm a large trade happened and who was involved, since that's public. They don't tell you why. A fund rebalancing, a promoter raising funds, an FII adjusting exposure, all look identical on paper. Takeaway. A block or bulk deal headline alone isn't bullish or bearish. You need the actual reason behind it to judge that.
