BHEL wins Rs 22.87 crore KAVACH order from Railways

BHEL
Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL) received a Letter of Intent worth ₹22.87 crore from South Western Railway to supply and install KAVACH train protection equipment. Execution timeline is 18 months. The order covers design, development, supply, installation, trial and commissioning of KAVACH equipment on locomotives and at trackside locations, including stations and level crossings. KAVACH is India's indigenous automatic train protection system, built to prevent train collisions by automatically applying brakes if a driver fails to respond to signals. The equipment will be manufactured at BHEL's Bengaluru plant. ₹22.87 crore is a small order for a company the size of BHEL, and it should be read as exactly that, not as a standalone catalyst. What makes this worth tracking is the category it sits in rather than its size. KAVACH deployment across Indian Railways is a multi-year national rollout, and BHEL picking up individual zone-level contracts like this one is a recurring pattern worth watching cumulatively, not order by order. The 18-month execution timeline also matters for when this actually shows up in revenue. A KAVACH order booked today does not translate into revenue immediately, it gets recognized as installation and commissioning milestones are completed over that window. My stance: an immaterial single order on its own, but worth tracking as part of BHEL's broader KAVACH order flow across Indian Railways zones over the coming quarters. I do not hold Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited at the time of writing.
