Nestle India falls despite 36% profit growth

NESTLEIND
Nestle India Limited (NESTLEIND) reported Q2 FY27 net profit of ₹1,027 crore, up 36% year on year. Revenue increased 20% to ₹6,788 crore, yet the stock fell roughly 9% after the results. The reaction is worth examining. The business delivered double-digit sales volume growth, supported by Maggi, Nescafe, rural demand and quick-commerce sales. This suggests that growth was not driven by price increases alone. So why did the stock fall? The results were broadly in line with analyst expectations. Investors may have been looking for an even stronger performance, particularly after the recent rally in consumer stocks. A good result can still disappoint when expectations are higher. There is another issue. Nestle flagged rising costs for packaging, edible oils and agricultural commodities. These costs can put pressure on margins if the company cannot offset them through productivity, product mix or selective price increases. My view is that the volume growth is the strongest part of this result. But I would not ignore input-cost inflation. If costs rise faster than sales, revenue growth may not translate into similar profit growth. The next trigger is Q3 FY27 results. I will watch volume growth, gross margin and whether cost inflation begins to slow. My stance: The business remains healthy, but I would want evidence that volume growth can continue without margin deterioration before turning more positive.
