UltraTech’s Wires Entry Puts Pressure on cable stocks

UltraTech Cement’s entry into the wires and cables segment with its new Ultravolt brand has put pressure on established players. Shares of wires and cables companies came under pressure on Friday, September 4, after UltraTech Cement entered the segment with its new Ultravolt brand. Polycab India fell up to 6% to ₹8,250 on the NSE and was closed around ₹8,300, down nearly 5.76%. The decline came a day after UltraTech unveiled Ultravolt, nearly three months ahead of its previously indicated December 2026 rollout. The cement major has committed around ₹1,800 crore to the new business, raising concerns about intensified competition, pricing pressure and potential changes in market share across the industry. The selling pressure was not limited to Polycab.

DYCL
declined more than 10%, while Finolex Cables fell over 4% during the session. Investors are now assessing how UltraTech’s financial strength, established distribution network and early entry could affect the competitive dynamics of India’s wires and cables market. The development has also triggered concerns over possible valuation de-rating for established players as the sector prepares for a potentially more competitive phase.
