Exide Industries Infuses ₹50 Crore into EV Battery Arm to Accelerate Lithium-Ion Expansion

Exide Industries has announced an additional ₹50 crore equity investment in its wholly owned subsidiary Exide Energy Solutions Limited (EESL), reinforcing its long-term commitment to India’s electric mobility and advanced battery ecosystem. The investment was made on January 28, 2026, through a rights issue, with Exide subscribing to 1.25 crore equity shares at a price of ₹40 per share (face value ₹10 and premium ₹30). Following this infusion, Exide’s total investment in EESL now stands at ₹4,252.23 crore, while its shareholding remains unchanged at 100%. EESL is the company’s dedicated lithium-ion battery platform, focused on manufacturing battery cells, modules, and packs for electric vehicles and stationary energy storage applications. The subsidiary is currently setting up a greenfield lithium-ion battery manufacturing facility in Bengaluru, a strategic project aligned with India’s EV and energy transition goals. As of March 31, 2025, EESL reported a net worth of ₹2,738 crore and a turnover of ₹116.9 crore, though it continues to incur losses as it remains in the investment and scale-up phase. Management has clarified that the latest capital infusion will be used to fund project development and meet operational funding requirements. From a strategic standpoint, this investment underlines Exide’s intent to build a strong domestic lithium-ion capability, positioning itself beyond traditional lead-acid batteries and into future-ready energy solutions. Overall, while near-term profitability may remain under pressure due to high capex, the move strengthens Exide’s long-term growth narrative in the rapidly expanding EV and energy storage market.
