Maruti Suzuki's Q1 FY27 results reveal a company navigating conflicting currents. Revenue performance remained robust, with net sales reaching ₹52,469.80 crores, virtually flat sequentially but demonstrating remarkable year-on-year resilience with 35.91% growth. However, this topline strength failed to percolate down to operating profitability, as operating profit before depreciation, interest, and tax (excluding other income) contracted sharply to ₹4,313.30 crores—the lowest quarterly figure in recent history. The margin compression story becomes stark when examining the operating profit margin trajectory. At 8.34% for Q1 FY27, the metric has deteriorated significantly from 12.17% in the corresponding quarter of the previous year and 11.94% in the immediately preceding quarter. This represents a sequential contraction of 360 basis points, pointing to either aggressive pricing to maintain market share or escalating input costs that the company has been unable to pass through to consumers.
