India New Internet Gateway ..............

India’s AI boom is creating demand for data centres, subsea cables, low-latency networks, and stronger international digital connectivity. For years, Mumbai and Chennai have been the major gateways for India’s international internet traffic. But something interesting is happening on the eastern coast. Visakhapatnam is becoming a new digital gateway. Google is building a $15 billion AI hub in Vizag, including gigawatt-scale compute infrastructure and a new international subsea gateway. Google says the gateway will bring multiple international cables to India’s east coast and add route diversity to existing Mumbai and Chennai landings. I-2SEA, a new submarine cable system involving Microsoft, Singtel, Tata Communications and Lightstorm, is being built to connect India with Singapore and Malaysia while serving the growing AI and data-centre ecosystem.

More AI compute → more data → more international traffic → more cables → more demand for connectivity. And that brings us to Tata Communications. The company operates global connectivity infrastructure and is part of the I-2SEA consortium. Its network business provides connectivity between enterprises, cloud platforms and data centres across international routes. So the bigger story isn't simply about one cable landing in Andhra Pradesh. It is about the formation of an AI infrastructure ecosystem where compute, power, fibre, cloud and subsea connectivity increasingly come together. What to watch: subsea cable capacity, data-centre expansion, enterprise connectivity demand, AI workloads and international bandwidth requirements.
