Canara Bank delivered a robust set of results for Q4 FY25, with net profit rising approximately 33 % year-on-year to around ₹5,000 crore

Total income for the quarter rose about 10 % to ~₹37,350 crore, while net interest income (NII) edged slightly lower (≈-1.4% YoY to ~₹9,442 crore), largely due to margin compression amid competitive deposit pricing and rate dynamics. On the asset-quality front, the bank posted continued improvement: as of June 25, gross NPA ratio has declined to around 2.69 %, net NPA to ~0.63%, and the provision coverage ratio (PCR) has nudged above 93 %. The advances (lending) book is showing healthy growth — domestic deposits grew ~8–9 % YoY, gross advances rose over 11 % YoY, and the retail credit portfolio including housing and vehicle loans is gaining traction. On the strategic front, Canara Bank is focusing on strengthening its low-cost deposit base (CASA), scaling its RAM (Retail, Agriculture, MSME) portfolio, automating credit decisioning, and leveraging data/technology to manage risk and improve efficiencies. The board also declared a dividend of ₹4 per share for FY25, signalling confidence in cash flows and governance. However, some cautions remain — with NII under pressure from margin compression and rate headwinds, and profitability still somewhat reliant on non-interest income. That said, given its improving fundamentals, better asset quality, and growth momentum in lending, Canara Bank looks well-positioned to capture further upside.
