Lenskart — The Eyewear Market Is Just Getting Started

LENSKART
India doesn't just need more glasses. It needs better access to eye care, better products and a better buying experience. Lenskart is building all three. What started as an online eyewear platform has evolved into a technology-led omnichannel eyewear ecosystem — combining stores, online commerce, eye testing, manufacturing and international brands. And the growth is getting harder to ignore. Q1 FY27 revenue jumped 43% YoY to ₹2,714 crore, while adjusted PAT reached roughly ₹228 crore. EBITDA rose sharply as operating leverage kicked in. But revenue is only one part of the story. Lenskart is expanding the funnel: More stores → More eye tests → More customers → More purchases → More repeat customers. Its quarterly transacting customer accounts increased 18.5% YoY to 44 lakh, while Active Gold members climbed 31% to 93.5 lakh. Then comes the physical expansion. India's eyewear market remains highly fragmented, leaving room for an organised player to consolidate demand through a combination of brand, technology, affordable pricing and convenience. And Lenskart isn't stopping at India. Its international business is also scaling, giving the company another runway beyond the domestic market. In FY26, international revenue grew 30.2%, while overall revenue grew 32.3%. The most interesting piece may be operating leverage. FY26 EBITDA grew 55.3%, with EBITDA margin expanding from 16.9% to 19.9%. ROCE also improved to 23.1% excluding IPO proceeds. That's the flywheel investors should watch: Scale → Better utilisation → Higher margins → More cash generation → More stores → More scale. Of course, risks remain — premium valuation, aggressive expansion, execution, competition and the challenge of maintaining high growth as the base gets larger. But structurally, the opportunity is much bigger than selling spectacles. Eye tests create customers. Stores create trust. Technology creates convenience. Manufacturing creates control.
