Maruti Suzuki — India’s Auto Growth Story Is Getting Bigger

MARUTI
The market is expanding. SUVs are accelerating. Exports are booming. And Maruti is adding capacity just as India’s next wave of car ownership begins. Maruti is no longer just India's largest carmaker. It is becoming a global manufacturing and export powerhouse. The biggest trigger is volume growth. FY26 delivered a record 24.22 lakh vehicles, with domestic sales of 19.75 lakh and exports of 4.48 lakh. Net sales crossed ₹1.74 lakh crore, while annual net profit reached a record ₹14,445 crore.  And the SUV story is getting stronger. In Q1 FY27, total sales jumped 29.3% YoY, while SUV sales surged 44.6%. Domestic market share increased 2.3 percentage points to 41.2%.  Then comes the real opportunity — capacity + exports. Maruti has added 5 lakh units of manufacturing capacity during FY27 and plans to introduce 7 new SUVs over the next five years. Its longer-term manufacturing capacity target is around 40 lakh vehicles annually.  Now look at the growth engines: SUVs ↑ Small Cars ↑ Exports ↑ EVs ↑ Capacity ↑ Market Share ↑ And exports could become a massive second engine. FY26 exports jumped more than 34% to 4.47 lakh vehicles, with Maruti exporting to more than 100 countries. The company also began exporting its first BEV, the e VITARA, while FRONX crossed 2 lakh exports in under 38 months.  The EV opportunity is particularly interesting. Maruti now has small cars, SUVs, CNG, hybrids and EVs across its portfolio — giving it multiple powertrains instead of betting everything on one technology. And this is where the Maruti story becomes powerful: More capacity → More vehicles → More exports → More scale → More operating leverage. Of course, competition from Tata, Mahindra, Hyundai and others remains intense. Commodity costs, EV transition and margin pressure are key risks. But the runway is enormous. India is buying more cars. SUV demand is rising. Exports are accelerating. Capacity is expanding.
