Persistent Systems Ltd has seen a sharp rally driven by enthusiasm around artificial intelligence services

PERSISTENT
But the stock’s valuation now appears stretched. It trades at a premium relative to many mid-tier Indian IT peers, implying that a significant portion of expected AI-led growth is already priced in. When valuations expand faster than earnings, even minor disappointments in deal wins, margins, or guidance can trigger disproportionate downside. Operationally, while revenue growth has remained healthy, margin expansion has been uneven amid wage pressures, higher onsite costs, and continued investment in AI capabilities. Much of the AI narrative is still services-oriented rather than proprietary product-led, meaning revenue scalability and pricing power may not justify current optimism. Additionally, exposure to key verticals like BFSI and healthcare makes the company vulnerable to discretionary IT spending slowdowns in a tighter global macro environment. From a market perspective, momentum indicators have shown signs of cooling after the strong run-up, and sector-wide volatility in Indian IT stocks adds risk. If global tech spending moderates or AI adoption cycles take longer to convert into meaningful, high-margin contracts, Persistent Systems could face multiple compression. In that scenario, the stock may consolidate or correct despite maintaining fundamentally sound long-term prospects.
