INDIA’S SEMICONDUCTOR STORY: CHIPS TO AN ENTIRE ECOSYSTEM
Imagine India’s technology journey as a long road.
For years, India designed software that powered the world. Now, the country is trying to build the **hardware underneath that technology** — semiconductors.
The latest signal is **Semicon 2.0**, approved with an outlay of ₹1,27,500 crore. The focus goes beyond fabs to chip design, advanced packaging, machines, materials, R&D and talent.
Tata Electronics is building a semiconductor fab at Dholera and a packaging facility in Assam, while its ecosystem partnerships span equipment, infrastructure, gases, chemicals and talent. The Dholera fab alone is expected to require around 450 suppliers.
That creates an important learning point:
**The semiconductor opportunity may not belong only to the company making the chip.**
It can potentially extend across the ecosystem.
• **CG Power & Industrial Solutions** – semiconductor/OSAT exposure
• **Kaynes Technology India** – electronics & semiconductor manufacturing ecosystem
• **Dixon Technologies** – electronics manufacturing and component ecosystem
• **Tata Elxsi** – semiconductor-related engineering and design capabilities
