LTTS
L&T Technology Services (NSE:LTTS) posted Q1FY27 revenue of Rs 2,940 crore, up 11.5% YoY, with EBITDA margin expanding 200 basis points to 18.7%. Profitability grew faster than revenue, meaning the company is not just growing but doing so with meaningfully improved efficiency.
What happened:
LTTS is building what it calls an “Engineering Intelligence” strategy, partnering with Anthropic and Databricks to use AI to automate routine engineering tasks and shorten design cycles. Fixed-price contracts make up 35.1% of revenue. When AI trims the time and cost needed to complete those contracts, the efficiency savings flow directly to margins rather than getting passed on to clients.
Why it matters:
Only 5-6% of global ER&D work is currently outsourced, compared to 46% for IT services. LTTS is well-positioned to capture a larger slice of that gap as engineering complexity rises across EVs, semiconductors, and industrial automation. The Sustainability segment, covering plant design and energy transition, contributed 37.1% of Q1FY27 revenue and grew 11.3% YoY.
What I am watching:
Large deal wins moderated sharply to around $100 million in Q1FY27 versus a quarterly average of roughly $200 million in FY26. Q2 deal momentum will be the critical test of whether this is a blip or something more concerning. The company’s Lakshya’31 plan targets 13-15% annual revenue growth and EBIT margins of 16-17%.
My stance:
LTTS trades at 25.7x earnings vs. a five-year median of 37.2x. The valuation gap is real, but narrowing it requires consistent deal wins and proof that AI-driven margin gains are durable. Worth watching closely into Q2 before drawing conclusions on re-rating.
I do not hold a position in L&T Technology Services at the time of writing. This is not investment advice.#EquityResearch#TrendingSectors#FundamentalViews#WatchOutFor
