LUMAXIND
Lumax Industries (NSE: LUMAXIND) makes automotive LED headlamps, taillamps, and interior lighting for passenger vehicles, two-wheelers, and commercial vehicles in India. It is the direct play on India's halogen-to-LED shift; LED products were 63% of Q1FY27 revenue, up from 61% in FY26.
What happened: Q1FY27 revenue rose 32.6% YoY to Rs 1,223 crore; EBITDA grew 33.7% to Rs 113 crore; margin held flat at 9.2% YoY. Net profit rose 41.2% to Rs 51.1 crore. FY26 revenue was Rs 4,184 crore, up 23% YoY. The order book stood at Rs 2,500 crore at end-Q1FY27, up from Rs 2,200 crore at end-FY26; 90% is LED-based.
Why it matters: India's auto lighting market grows from $1.83 billion (2026) to $2.44 billion by 2031. Lumax targets Rs 9,000 crore by FY31, raising content per vehicle from Rs 15,000-20,000 to Rs 22,000-25,000. Tooling revenue rises to Rs 250-300 crore in FY27 from Rs 180-185 crore in FY26, providing an H2 margin lift. PCB localisation could add a further 70-90 bps to margins.
What I am watching: Whether H2FY27 tooling revenue delivers the promised margin lift, PCB localisation progress, and order conversion from the Rs 2,500 crore book.
My stance: 32.6% revenue growth with flat margins shows the scale is building but not yet showing through in profitability. Tooling and PCB localisation are the real levers; the test is whether these arrive on schedule. At 24.9x P/E against a 5-year median of 22x and industry at 29.5x, Lumax trades modestly above its own history. A margin inflection in H2FY27 is the catalyst I am watching for.
I do not hold a position in Lumax Industries at the time of writing. This is not investment advice.#FundamentalViews#EquityResearch#HiddenGems#TrendingSectors#WatchOutFor
