Pinaka Power: Solar’s Shareholder Windfall

$SOLARINDS India’s defence push is no longer just about cutting imports. It is about designing, building and exporting complete systems. At the heart of this shift is the Pinaka multi-barrel rocket programme, now a major revenue driver for Solar Industries. For shareholders, this is a clear value-creation story backed by hard numbers. Solar has transformed from an industrial explosives maker into a high-margin defence player. In Q1 FY27, defence revenue jumped 123% year-on-year to ₹933 crore, lifting its share in total revenue to 26% from 19% a year ago. Consolidated revenue rose 70% to ₹3,668 crore, EBITDA surged 82% to ₹1,024 crore, and net profit almost doubled to ₹666 crore. Margins expanded to 27.9%, reflecting the premium nature of defence orders. The order book stands at a massive ₹21,400 crore, with over ₹18,000 crore from defence. A key component is the ₹6,084 crore Pinaka contract for Enhanced Range rockets and Area Denial Munitions. Management targets ₹14,000 crore revenue in FY27, with defence contributing ₹4,500 crore. This means defence could account for over 32% of revenue this year, up from 26% in Q1. Solar is the first private firm to test-fire and dispatch Pinaka Enhanced Mk-I rockets to the Army. It has also exported guided Pinaka rockets to Armenia, opening an international revenue stream. Eight years of R&D and 100 test firings validate its technical edge. With guided variants in the pipeline, the revenue runway extends well beyond FY27. For shareholders, this is highly beneficial. The defence vertical offers the highest margins, multi-year visibility, and export optionality. Risks include execution delays and high valuations, but the order book de-risks near-term growth. If targets are met, Solar’s earnings compound faster than revenue, rewarding long-term holders. The Pinaka opportunity is not just strategic for India. It is a profit engine for Solar’s investors.
