VOLTAS
Faces Headwinds, Banking on H2FY26 Recovery 🌬️

Current Market Challenges:

VOLTAS
's management has delivered a somber outlook, causing its stock to drop. The company is grappling with weak room air conditioner (RAC) sales in Q2FY26 due to several factors: high channel inventory (2-3 months), prolonged monsoons, and a slowdown in purchases as consumers awaited the announced GST rate rationalization. Expected Festive Boost and Regulatory Changes: The GST rate on RACs has been reduced from 28% to 18% as of September 22, which Voltas hopes will spur demand. This, along with the upcoming festive season, pent-up demand from the weak first half of the fiscal year, and pre-buying ahead of new BEE energy efficiency rules, is expected to drive a recovery in H2FY26. Cautious Analyst Outlook: Despite the positive catalysts, some analysts, including Nomura, remain cautious. They believe that elevated channel inventory may continue to dampen primary sales in Q3FY26, and the net benefit of the GST cut for consumers might be minimal by Q4FY26. Stiff competition and favorable weather conditions could also deter AC purchases. Consequently, a more pronounced and sustainable recovery is not anticipated until FY27. Subdued Financial Performance and High Valuation: The company's Q1FY26 performance was weak, with a 25% year-on-year drop in revenue from its unitary cooling product segment and a significant contraction in its EBITDA margin. With Q2 results also expected to be under pressure, the stock has fallen 28% over the past year. Analysts note that the current valuation of around 57 times its estimated FY26 earnings is quite pricey, and they will be monitoring the festive season's impact on demand and Voltas's market share closely.
