Adani Ports Adds 18 MMT Capacity at Paradip

Research Analyst: UJVIN NEVATIA (PROPRIETOR: NEVAT INVESTMENTS) | SEBI Registration No.: INH100009628 Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone (

ADANIPORTS
) has emerged as the highest bidder and received a Letter of Award (LoA) to develop and operate two dry bulk berths at Paradip Port in Odisha. The project will add 18 million metric tonnes (MMT) of mechanised dry bulk handling capacity to its domestic portfolio. What Is the Paradip Project? The CQ-I and CQ-II berths will be developed under a 30-year concession through the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model. APSEZ will build mechanised cargo-handling systems, deep-draft berths and large-scale storage infrastructure. With the new capacity, APSEZ's domestic portfolio will increase from 653 MMT to 671 MMT. The company is targeting 1 billion tonnes of cargo throughput by 2030. Why Does This Matter? Paradip is India's second-largest major port and serves a mineral-rich hinterland covering important industrial and steel-producing regions. The new terminal is expected to support handling of coal, limestone and other dry bulk commodities. The project also strengthens APSEZ's presence on India's eastern coast, where it already operates facilities at Haldia, Dhamra, Gopalpur and Gangavaram. The additional capacity comes as East Coast ports face high utilisation amid rising cargo demand. For APSEZ, the development expands its port network and capacity while improving access to major industrial and mineral-producing markets in eastern and central India.
