Adani Ports to Launch Empty Container Yard at Mundra

Research Analyst: UJVIN NEVATIA (PROPRIETOR: NEVAT INVESTMENTS) | SEBI Registration No.: INH100009628 Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone (

ADANIPORTS
) has announced plans to launch a dedicated Empty Container Yard (ECY) with integrated warehousing at Mundra Port and SEZ. The facility will provide end-to-end services across the empty container lifecycle, including storage, maintenance, inspection and movement of containers to exporters and Container Freight Stations (CFSs). The initiative is aimed at improving container handling and services for shipping lines and customers. Why Is an Empty Container Yard Important? Empty containers need to be stored, inspected and repositioned efficiently before they can be reused for exports or returned to shipping lines. A dedicated yard can help reduce unnecessary container movements and improve the turnaround time of containers. According to APSEZ, on-site operations are also expected to improve safety, security and regulatory compliance while making better use of port infrastructure and helping optimise logistics costs. Why Does This Matter for Mundra Port? APSEZ had a 45.5% share of India's container market in FY26, while Mundra Port handled nearly 35% of India's container trade. The volume of empty containers handled at Mundra is estimated at around 1.6 million TEUs annually. The ECY is part of APSEZ's broader Ambition 2031 roadmap. The company plans to add more than 6 million TEUs of container-handling capacity over the next five years. The development highlights the company's focus on expanding not only port capacity but also supporting logistics infrastructure that can improve the movement of containers across India's import-export supply chain.
