IndiGo Raises Fees on Key Ancillary Services

Research Analyst: UJVIN NEVATIA (PROPRIETOR: NEVAT INVESTMENTS) | SEBI Registration No.: INH100009628 InterGlobe Aviation Limited (

INDIGO
), which operates IndiGo, has revised charges for several ancillary services. The excess baggage fee has increased to ₹800 per kg from ₹700, while the domestic infant fee has risen to ₹3,000 from ₹2,000. What changed? IndiGo has also raised charges for its Fast Forward priority check-in and boarding service. The fee is now ₹650, compared with ₹500 earlier, while the unaccompanied minor service has been revised to ₹5,999 for domestic travel and ₹12,999 for international travel. Why does it matter? These are ancillary revenues, meaning income generated from services sold in addition to the basic air ticket. For airlines, such services can add revenue without requiring a higher headline fare. The more relevant question is how many passengers use these services. A higher fee can increase revenue per user, but the benefit depends on passenger volumes and whether demand for the add-ons remains intact. My view The fee increases are more useful to watch as a monetisation strategy than as a standalone earnings driver. IndiGo already has a large passenger base, so even small increases in ancillary revenue per passenger can become meaningful at scale. However, the actual impact will depend on service adoption and the contribution of these charges to total revenue. What I am watching next I would watch ancillary revenue per passenger, passenger volumes and adoption of paid services in upcoming results. These will show whether the revised pricing is translating into meaningful incremental revenue.
