JSW Energy and JSW Steel plan ₹2,850 crore bond raise

Research Analyst: UJVIN NEVATIA (PROPRIETOR: NEVAT INVESTMENTS) | SEBI Registration No.: INH100009628 JSW Energy Limited (

JSWENERGY
) and JSW Steel Limited are planning to raise around ₹2,850 crore through shorter-tenor bonds during October-December 2026, according to bankers. The companies could tap the market as early as October if rates are favourable. What happened? JSW Energy is looking to raise around ₹1,500 crore through bonds with maturities of up to five years. JSW Steel could raise around ₹1,350 crore through three- or four-year debt. The companies have not officially confirmed the planned issuances. Why does it matter? Both companies have large capital requirements. JSW Energy is expanding generation and storage capacity, while JSW Steel is pursuing major capacity expansion. JSW Steel expects FY27 capex of ₹22,000-24,000 crore and plans to increase India steel capacity to 62 million tonnes by FY32. My view The proposed bond raises should be viewed through funding cost and leverage. Shorter-tenor debt provides funding flexibility, but the impact will depend on the final coupon and use of proceeds. What I am watching next The key triggers are the final issue size, coupon, maturity and use of proceeds. I would also track net debt and interest costs alongside capex to assess whether additional borrowing is supporting expansion without weakening balance-sheet flexibility.
