NESTLEIND
has cautioned that consumer demand may moderate in the near term as geopolitical tensions, inflationary pressures, and supply chain disruptions create uncertainty for the FMCG sector. The company highlighted that higher freight costs, volatile energy prices, packaging material inflation, edible oil costs, and shipping disruptions could increase operating costs and impact the availability of raw materials. Despite these near-term challenges, Nestlé India reiterated its long-term growth strategy. The company plans to drive growth through higher product penetration, volume expansion, premiumisation, continued investment in brands, and manufacturing capacity expansion. Its premium portfolio has grown at a 17% compound annual growth rate since 2021 and now contributes 14% of the overall portfolio, up from 11% in 2021. The company also continues to expand its retail reach, village distribution network, and e-commerce presence while focusing on cost optimisation and disciplined cash generation. Industry & Economic Impact: The outlook reflects the challenges currently facing India's FMCG industry, where geopolitical events and commodity price volatility are increasing input costs while consumer demand remains price-sensitive. Companies are increasingly relying on premium products, wider distribution, and operational efficiencies to sustain growth without significantly impacting affordability. From an economic perspective, resilient consumer goods companies play a vital role in supporting manufacturing, agriculture, logistics, and retail employment. Continued investments in capacity and distribution strengthen supply chains and help sustain domestic consumption, which remains a key driver of India's economic growth despite near-term macroeconomic headwinds.
