Nuvoco plans 46.4 MW captive renewable project

Research Analyst: UJVIN NEVATIA (PROPRIETOR: NEVAT INVESTMENTS) | SEBI Registration No.: INH100009628 Nuvoco Vistas Corporation Limited (

NUVOCO
) plans to acquire a 26% stake in a CleanMax subsidiary for a 46.4 MW wind-solar hybrid project in Rajasthan. What happened? The project will combine 20 MW of wind capacity, 26.4 MW of solar capacity and a 2 MWh battery storage system. It is expected to generate around 100 million units of electricity annually. Nuvoco's investment is capped at ₹26 crore. CleanMax will develop, operate and maintain the project under a 25-year arrangement. Why does it matter? Power and fuel are major operating costs for cement manufacturers. Captive renewable energy can reduce dependence on conventional electricity and exposure to fuel-price volatility. The project is also expected to help Nuvoco avoid approximately 1.25 lakh tonnes of annual CO₂ emissions. My view The investment is primarily an operating-cost management initiative rather than a new revenue opportunity. The group captive structure allows Nuvoco to secure renewable electricity without developing and operating the entire project itself. However, the actual savings will depend on electricity tariffs, generation efficiency and transmission costs. What I am watching next I would track project commissioning, renewable power consumption and power cost per tonne of cement. These will show whether the investment delivers measurable savings.
