PFIZER
and CIPLA
have entered a five-year exclusive marketing and distribution partnership under which Cipla will sell four of Pfizer’s established brands in India, while Pfizer continues to manufacture and supply them. The deal covers cough syrups Corex Dx and Corex LS, pain drug Dolonex, acid-reflux medicine Neksium and antibiotic Dalacin C, and marks the first such collaboration between the two companies in the country.
What the partnership does
* Cipla gets sole rights to market, distribute and sell these brands across India, leveraging its deep domestic network and front-end capabilities.
* Pfizer retains control of quality and production, effectively turning this into an asset-light commercial expansion of its legacy portfolio.
Strategic implications
* For Pfizer, the tie-up broadens reach and utilisation of mature brands without building its own large-field force footprint in every therapy pocket.
* For Cipla, the alliance strengthens presence in respiratory, pain, gastro and anti-infective segments, adding high-trust brands that can ride on its existing doctor and pharmacy relationships.
