Zen Technologies Q1 Profit Declines on Lower Revenue and Higher Input Costs

Research Analyst: UJVIN NEVATIA (PROPRIETOR: NEVAT INVESTMENTS) | SEBI Registration No.: INH100009628 $ZENTEC reported a challenging first quarter of FY27, with net profit declining 28% year-on-year to ₹34.4 crore, while revenue from operations fell 10% to ₹141.6 crore. The weaker performance was primarily due to lower revenue recognition during the quarter and a sharp increase in input costs, which impacted overall profitability. The company stated that execution of its existing order book is expected to accelerate from the second quarter onwards, with delivery schedules remaining on track. Operating performance also softened during the quarter. EBITDA declined nearly 39% to ₹38.7 crore, leading to a contraction in operating margins. Higher raw material and input costs, along with lower revenue, weighed on earnings. Despite the weak quarterly results, Zen Technologies ended the quarter with an executable order book exceeding ₹1,000 crore, providing strong revenue visibility for the coming quarters as projects move into the execution phase. Industry & Economic Impact: The results highlight the project-based nature of India's defence technology industry, where quarterly financial performance can fluctuate depending on the timing of order execution and revenue recognition. A strong order backlog remains an important indicator of future growth potential, particularly for companies supplying advanced defence training and simulation systems. From an economic perspective, continued investment in indigenous defence technologies supports the government's focus on self-reliance in defence manufacturing, strengthens the domestic defence ecosystem, and creates opportunities for high-value manufacturing, research, and skilled employment. As execution of existing defence contracts accelerates, it can contribute to growth in the broader defence and aerospace sector. Source: Economic Times No Recommendations
