Titan’s 7 Oct fall: 21% jewellery beat CLSA, missed JPMorgan

TITAN
Titan shares fell 4.4 percent to Rs 4,350 in early trade on 7 October, the day after the company’s Q2 FY27 business update. The stock was the biggest loser on the Nifty 50 that morning and was still down 3.8 percent at noon. The same update showed jewellery growth of 21 percent, which beat CLSA’s consensus but missed JPMorgan’s expectation. Q2 FY27 domestic jewellery growth against two estimates: Actual: 21 percent YoY CLSA consensus: 19.3 percent, beaten by 1.7 points JPMorgan expectation: 25 percent, missed by 4 points The split explains the fall. The number cleared one bar and failed the other, so the market priced the miss. I covered the slowdown from 43 percent in Q1 in my 13 October post. This post is about the price reaction. Titan [

][***** trades at Rs 4,377.89 at 9:57 AM IST today on StockGro, down 0.8 percent from Rs 4,413.30. That is 0.6 percent above the 7 October intraday low of Rs 4,350. At 67.6 times trailing earnings, against a sector P/E of 49, the stock still prices in growth that the broker split does not fully confirm. My view: hold, not a fresh entry. A number that beats one broker and misses another is not a clean signal either way. Fresh money needs the Q2 result to confirm jewellery growth of at least 21 percent, and the stock to hold above Rs 4,350, the 7 October low. Without both, no fresh money. My exit is a close below Rs 3,460, carried from my 13 October post. Disclosure: Vijay Kumar Gupta, SEBI Registered Research Analyst, INH000020226, Vijay Gupta Advisory.
