When Crude Turns Costly, Who Actually Pays the Price?

Brent just touched a 4-month high above $108 a barrel. For India — a net oil importer — that's not a background detail, it's a direct hit to the import bill, inflation trajectory, and corporate margins. The transmission isn't instant, but it's predictable. Oil marketing companies feel it first through under-recoveries. Paints, tyres, and aviation feel it next through raw-material and fuel cost inflation. FMCG and logistics follow with a lag as freight and packaging costs climb. None of this means "sell everything oil-sensitive" — many of these businesses have pricing power and hedges that soften the blow. But it does mean margin commentary in the next earnings season deserves closer reading than usual. Track the input-cost story before the market fully prices it in. That's where the real edge lives — not in reacting to the oil headline, but in mapping its second-order effects early.
