Garden Reach Shipbuilders & Engineers (GRSE) continues

GRSE
Garden Reach Shipbuilders & Engineers (GRSE) continues to have a strong fundamental outlook, supported by defence spending, shipbuilding demand and its newly acquired Navratna status. In Q1 FY27, revenue from operations rose 38.5% YoY to ₹1,814.6 crore, while PAT increased 43.8% to ₹172.8 crore, showing strong execution and profitability growth. A major positive trigger is GRSE's ₹2,670 crore expansion plan for shipbuilding and ship-repair facilities in West Bengal, including more than ₹2,500 crore investment at Raichak. This should increase capacity and allow the company to pursue larger defence as well as commercial shipbuilding opportunities. The Navratna status received in June 2026 is another important structural positive because it gives GRSE greater autonomy for investments, joint ventures and expansion. The company has also been diversifying beyond traditional defence vessels into commercial ships, green vessels and exports. GRSE is building 12 multi-purpose vessels for a German customer and has emerged L1 for a 15-tonne electric tug, strengthening its green-shipbuilding credentials.

Garden Reach Shipbuilders Financial Results Analysis-Q1FY27

GRSE
Financial performance and key Operating Metrics (Consolidated) : Operating Revenue for Q1FY27 is Rs. 1,815 Crs., 38.53% growth YoY, Total Income is Rs. 1,914 Crs., 38.47% growth YoY, Gross Profit is Rs. 443 Crs., 21.04% Negative growth YoY, EBITDA is Rs. 149 Crs., 19.1% Negative growth YoY, EBITDA Margin is 8.22% declined by 512 basis points YoY, PBT Rs. 232 Crs., 38.87% growth YoY, PAT Rs. 173 Crs. 43.82% growth YoY. On QoQ basis Operating Revenue is down by 14.37%, Total Income is also down by 12.61%, Gross Profit is down by 59.16%, EBITDA is down by 65%, PBT is down by 43.65% and PAT is also down by 42.99%. GRSE received Navratna status (19 Jun 2026), called a “pivotal time” as the yard is pursuing ambitious brownfield + greenfield expansion. Order book: ₹13,596 crore : Shipbuilding: ₹12,980 crore (~95%) Ship repair ₹96 crore; Naval vessel gun ₹219 crore; Bailey bridge ₹158 crore; Deck machinery ₹58 crore; Diesel engine plant ₹82 crore Management cited five live tenders, total value could be plus ₹80,000 crore NGC contract signature timing is the most immediate swing factor for replenishing the shrinking order book. Commercial shipbuilding pivot is constrained today by physical size limits, being bridged via partnership models until greenfield/west-coast facilities come online. Capex intensity is meaningful (₹4,400 crore across two major projects plus ₹200 crore brownfield) with multi-year gestation.

🚢 Shipping Stocks Focus: India Plans 100 New Merchant Ships

The government plans to add 100 new vessels to India's merchant fleet over the next five years, as part of a broader strategy to strengthen Indian shipping and reduce the country's freight bill. India currently has around 1,600 seagoing merchant vessels. The announcement could benefit companies linked to shipbuilding, shipping and maritime infrastructure, including Shipping Corporation of India, Cochin Shipyard, Mazagon Dock and GRSE. The government is targeting a stronger Indian-flagged fleet and aims to make the country one of the world's top five ship-owning nations by 2047. 📌 StockYard Insight: The proposed fleet expansion is a positive long-term trigger for India's maritime sector. Investors should track new vessel orders, shipyard capacity and government policy support. #ShippingStocks #Shipbuilding #CochinShipyard #MazagonDock #GRSE #StockYardResearch
