Textile Stocks Regain Momentum on Export Revival

KPRMILL
The textile sector is starting to look interesting again after going through a difficult phase of weak demand, volatile raw material prices and pressure on margins. What has changed now is the global sourcing environment. India’s textile exports are showing improvement, while trade agreements and the gradual shift in sourcing away from China are opening up opportunities for Indian manufacturers. The article highlights that exports are expected to play a bigger role in driving growth, while domestic demand is also improving. Another important factor for me is market access. Trade agreements with the UK and other regions can make Indian textile products more competitive by reducing tariff disadvantages. India already has a diversified export base across the US, EU, UK and UAE, so better access to these markets can benefit companies with established manufacturing and export capabilities. At the company level, names like KPR Mill, Welspun Living and Indo Count Industries are worth tracking because they have meaningful exposure to this recovery theme. KPR Mill also has a diversified business model, while Welspun Living and Indo Count have significant exposure to home textiles and overseas markets. I would still keep an eye on cotton prices, currency movement and global demand because these can directly affect margins. But if export growth sustains and sourcing continues shifting towards India, I feel the textile sector could be entering a much better phase than what we saw over the last few years. Learning Outcome: Sector recoveries become stronger when improving demand is supported by structural changes such as new export markets, trade agreements and shifts in global supply chains.

India’s FTA Expansion: Boosting MSME Global Trade

India’s expanding network of Free Trade Agreements (FTAs) is opening new avenues for micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) to access key international markets, boost price competitiveness, and integrate into global supply chains. Recent trade deals with key partners—including the UK, EU, Australia, and New Zealand—aim to reduce tariff barriers and level the playing field against regional competitors in Vietnam and Bangladesh. Labor-intensive industries such as textiles, leather, footwear, engineering goods, chemicals, and gems and jewelry stand to gain significant preferential access, with early trade data already showing strong export growth to FTA partners like Singapore and Sri Lanka in Q1 FY2026-27. Beyond immediate duty reductions, these FTAs encourage domestic MSMEs to upgrade product quality, adopt modern technologies, and meet stringent international standards and certifications. By helping small businesses navigate preferential tariff structures and rules of origin, industry outreach programs are enabling domestic suppliers to connect directly with global buyers. Ultimately, this strategic trade approach aims to diversify India's export destinations, strengthen domestic manufacturing capabilities, and secure a higher share of high-value global trade.
