LIC - Jeevan Dharaa II, Health Shield and Cancer Cover

LICI
is in focus after launching three insurance products: New Jeevan Dharaa II, Health Shield and Cancer Cover. New product launches can broaden a company's offering and help it serve different customer needs. However, product availability alone does not guarantee higher profitability. Investors should track policy sales, premium income, persistency, distribution expenses, claims experience and the contribution of new products to the overall business. Product suitability for customers is also different from the investment attractiveness of the insurer's shares. Learning point: A product launch is a business development; its financial importance becomes clearer when sales, profitability and customer retention data emerge.

Life has announced the launch of three new products

Life Insurance Corporation of India (LIC) is all set to launch three new products, LIC’s New Jeevan Dhara – II, LIC’s Health Shield and LIC’s New Cancer Cover. These products will cater to domestic market and will be available for sale with effect from October 19, 2026. LIC’s New Jeevan Dhara - II is a Non-Par, Non-Linked, Individual, Savings, Deferred Annuity Plan, LIC’s Health Shield is a Non-Par, Non-Linked, Health, Individual, Pure Risk Plan, while LIC’s New Cancer Cover is a Non-Par, Non-Linked, Health, Individual, Pure Risk Plan. Impact : The introduction of these plans directly addresses long-standing challenges regarding profit margins, product mix diversification, and demographic reach. View : This announcement signals to the market that LIC is aggressively addressing its structurally low Value of New Business (VNB) margins, which has historically been a major pain point for analysts.

LIC — INDIA'S INSURANCE GIANT IS ENTERING ITS NEXT PHASE

LICI
LIC doesn't need an introduction. It needs a re-rating of what its scale can become. For decades, LIC built India's largest life-insurance franchise. Now the opportunity is to turn that enormous distribution, customer base and investment pool into higher-quality, more profitable growth. And the transformation is already visible. In FY26, LIC's Value of New Business jumped 41.63% to ₹14,179 crore, while VNB margin expanded by 360 bps to 21.2%. Individual non-par APE surged 43.78%, reaching ₹15,214 crore. That's important because: More profitable new business → Higher VNB → Higher embedded value → Stronger future earnings. LIC also remains India's largest life insurer by first-year premium market share, with 56.66% overall market share in FY26. But the real asset is sitting underneath the insurance business. LIC's AUM reached approximately ₹57.29 lakh crore by March 2026. That's an enormous financial asset base generating investment income while the insurance franchise continues to acquire new customers. And the business is gradually becoming more diversified. Traditional products → Non-par → Protection → ULIPs → Bancassurance → Alternate channels. Bancassurance and alternate channels already increased their share of individual new-business premium to 7.51% in FY26 from 5.59% a year earlier. The earnings engine therefore has multiple layers: More customers → More premiums → Better product mix → Higher VNB → Larger embedded value → More investment assets. There is another important number. FY26 PAT reached ₹57,419 crore, up 19.25% YoY, while total premium income increased 9.8% to ₹5.36 lakh crore. LIC is also improving efficiency. Its expense ratio declined to 11.91% from 12.42%, while the solvency ratio improved to 2.35. Of course, risks remain.

NSE Raises ₹6,746 Crore Ahead of Mega IPO

The National Stock Exchange of India (NSE) has raised ₹6,746.18 crore from anchor investors ahead of its much-awaited initial public offering (IPO), attracting participation from several prominent domestic and global institutional investors. NSE allocated 3.78 crore equity shares at ₹1,785 per share, the upper end of its IPO price band. The anchor allocation saw participation from marquee investors including Life Insurance Corporation of India (LIC), Goldman Sachs, Fidelity, Government Pension Fund Global, Monetary Authority of Singapore, Abu Dhabi Investment Authority and Morgan Stanley, among others.

LICI
emerged as the largest individual anchor investor, receiving 22.43 lakh shares worth approximately ₹400.30 crore. Foreign portfolio investors accounted for around ₹2,883 crore, or nearly 43% of the anchor book, while domestic mutual funds, insurance companies and pension funds also participated substantially. According to market sources, demand for the anchor allocation was close to ₹1.2 lakh crore, roughly 20 times the shares available in the anchor book. The NSE IPO is scheduled to open for public subscription on September 17, 2026, with a price band of ₹1,700–₹1,785 per share. The issue is structured as an offer for sale (OFS), meaning the proceeds will accrue to existing shareholders rather than NSE itself. The strong institutional participation comes as NSE prepares for its long-awaited public-market debut after years of regulatory and other delays.

LIC Growth Outlook: Margin Expansion & Product Mix Shift

LICI
is actively shifting its focus from traditional participating (par) endowment products toward high-margin non-par savings and protection policies. Individual non-par business grew to 32.5% of total individual annualized premium equivalent (APE) in Q1 FY27—up significantly from 9% in FY23—with management targeting around 35%. Supported by higher contribution from non-par products (which carry ~49.3% Value of New Business margin), LIC’s total VNB margin expanded by 750 basis points year-over-year to 22.9% in Q1 FY27. Management projects further gains into the mid-20s, aided by higher ticket sizes after increasing minimum sum assured requirements. LIC recorded solid top-line performance with an 8% YoY increase in APE for Q1 FY27. New Business Premium grew 45.3% YoY in August 2026, significantly outperforming private peers (20%), while individual APE registered 12.8% YoY growth during the same period. The company relies heavily on its vast distribution reach, boasting over 14 lakh agents responsible for more than 90% of individual new business premiums. Digital tools like Ananda, MyLIC, and Super Sales Saathi are driving productivity gains, alongside expanded cross-selling efforts into protection and annuity via bancassurance. The government completed a 6.5% stake sale via an offer for sale, lifting public shareholding to 10% and signaling no further supply overhang for 2–3 years. Trading at 0.6x March 2026 Embedded Value (EV) with a healthy solvency ratio of 2.42x, LIC presents scope for valuation re-rating as equity market gains support EV recovery.
