India’s Power Grid Story: One HVDC Order, A Much Bigger

As renewable power grows in Rajasthan and other regions, the next challenge is moving that electricity efficiently to where it is needed. That is where **HVDC transmission** enters the story. GE Vernova T&D India has emerged as L1 for the **Barmer II–South Kalamb 6,000 MW HVDC project**. The proposed GE Vernova contract is estimated around ₹13,000 crore, while the overall project is expected to be much larger. The development could significantly improve long-term revenue visibility. As renewable generation, data centres, electrification and industrial demand expand, India needs transformers, substations, transmission lines, grid automation and HVDC equipment. 📌 **Nifty 500 stocks to study around this theme:** • **

GVT&D
** — HVDC & grid equipment • **Hitachi Energy India** — HVDC, transformers & grid solutions • **CG Power & Industrial Solutions** — electrical equipment • **Siemens Energy India** — transmission & power technology • **ABB India** — electrification & grid solutions • **Apar Industries** — conductors & power transmission products • **KEC International** — transmission & EPC • **Kalpataru Projects International** — power transmission EPC • **Power Grid Corporation of India** — transmission infrastructure Several of these companies have exposure to India's expanding T&D ecosystem, although the benefit will differ by business mix, order wins, execution and valuations. **When renewable capacity rises, study the entire transmission chain because equipment makers, EPC firms, and grid owners can benefit differently.** 📚 **Educational purpose only:** This is sectoral learning, not a stock tip, recommendation, or investment advice. Adani Power — India’s Power Is Becoming Its Big

ADANIPOWER
Electricity demand is rising. AI needs power. Manufacturing needs power. Data centres need power. And Adani Power is building capacity for the next decade of India's energy demand. Adani Power is no longer just a thermal power company. It is becoming a large-scale baseload power platform. The biggest trigger is capacity expansion. FY26 ended with 18,150 MW of operational capacity, while the company has another 23,720 MW under construction. That takes the potential capacity pipeline to more than 41 GW — more than double the current operating base.  And demand is moving in the right direction. India's electricity consumption is rising with industrialisation, urbanisation, manufacturing and digital infrastructure. The AI and data-centre boom adds another structural source of power demand. Adani Power is positioned directly in the middle of this equation. Then comes the real opportunity — scale + efficiency + long-term contracts. Capacity ↑ Power Demand ↑ PPAs ↑ Plant Utilisation ↑ Cash Flow ↑ Expansion ↑ The company already has 96% of its operational capacity contracted, providing substantial revenue visibility. FY26 generated ₹23,431 crore of EBITDA, ₹12,971 crore PAT and ₹20,514 crore of operating cash flow. And Q1 FY27 showed the operating leverage. Plant load factor improved to 78%, while effective capacity increased to 18,150 MW. PPA realisation rose to ₹5.93/kWh and merchant realisation to ₹7.05/kWh. Now look at the bigger picture. Adani Power plans to scale towards approximately 42 GW by FY32, while also entering areas such as nuclear power and international projects. And this is where the story becomes powerful: More capacity → More generation → More cash flow → More capacity. India cannot build a $5 trillion+ economy without dramatically increasing its electricity supply. Factories need it. Railways need it. EVs need it. Data centres need it. AI needs it.
