Indian Banks Hit Historic Low NPAs, Shift to Growth Reforms

Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman announced at the PSB Confluence 2026 that non-performing assets (NPAs) across India’s banking sector have plunged to historic lows. This balance sheet turnaround, following an extensive clean-up process, has restored industry credibility and enabled public sector lenders to transition from defensive crisis management to proactive structural reforms. Backed by research from the Department of Financial Services (DFS), the two-day event focuses on aligning bank strategies with critical demographic trends—particularly India’s youth population, which comprises nearly 29% of the nation in the 15–29 age bracket. The confluence centers on seven key operational themes: deposit mobilization, youth-targeted banking, supporting the national investment cycle, backing Global Capability Centers (GCCs), expanding agricultural infrastructure, refining priority sector lending, and modernizing credit card ecosystems. These actionable strategies will directly inform a high-powered government committee tasked with defining the banking sector's role in the broader Viksit Bharat roadmap. By demanding practical, banker-led execution, the government aims to establish a resilient financial framework aligned with India's long-term economic growth targets.

PUNJAB AND SIND BANK TECHNICAL ANALYSIS CHART

PSB
Technical Analysis As per the daily chart, Punjab & Sind Bank is trading around ₹23.46 and the stock has been consolidating after recovering sharply from the ₹21–₹22 zone formed during March–April. The most important observation is the rising trendline support connecting the recent swing lows around ₹23, indicating that buyers have been defending this zone. The stock is currently very close to this important support structure. Therefore, ₹23.00–₹22.90 can be considered an important trendline/swing-low support zone. As long as the stock sustains above this area, the recovery structure remains intact. On the upside, ₹24.00–₹24.20 is the immediate resistance, followed by the stronger ₹25.00–₹25.50 zone. A decisive breakout above ₹25.50 could strengthen the bullish structure and potentially open the way toward ₹26–₹27. Key levels: Immediate support: ₹23.00–₹22.90 Major support: ₹22.00–₹21.00 Immediate resistance: ₹24.00–₹24.20 Major resistance: ₹25.00–₹25.50 Breakout above ₹25.50: Potential for ₹26–₹27 A daily close below the rising trendline and ₹22.90 would be a warning sign and could lead to further weakness toward ₹22 or ₹21. Therefore, the ₹23 zone is currently the key level to monitor.

Local Currency Trade to Shape India's Forex Market

### **Local Currency Trade to Shape India's Forex Market** RBI Deputy Governor **Rohit Jain** said local currencies will play an increasingly important role in cross-border trade and payments over the coming decade. Greater use of local currencies can **reduce transaction costs, lower currency mismatches and improve settlement efficiency**. India has introduced the **Special Rupee Vostro Account (SRVA)** framework to facilitate invoicing, payment and settlement of international trade in Indian rupees. Jain said its success will depend on commercial viability, wider use of local-currency settlements, market-determined exchange rates and confidence in the settlement system. Technology will also be a key driver of India's forex market. Forex transactions should become **digital from origination to reporting**, while AI and machine learning can help with document classification, anomaly detection and identifying reporting inconsistencies. Jain also highlighted the relatively low participation of **public sector banks in forex derivatives**, despite their strong links with MSMEs and smaller companies. Increasing PSB participation, expanding market makers and promoting electronic trading platforms are key priorities. RBI is also taking steps against unauthorised online forex trading through its Alert List, advisories and awareness campaigns. **Effect on Indian Stock Market:** The development is **structurally positive** for India's financial markets. Greater rupee-based international trade could benefit **banks, exporters, trade-finance companies, forex businesses and fintech firms**. Digitalisation can improve efficiency and transparency in forex transactions. In the long term, deeper forex markets and wider international use of the rupee could strengthen India's financial system. However, the **immediate impact on stock prices is likely to be limited**.

Punjab & Sind Bank Exploring QIP to Meet SEBI's Public Shareholding Norms

Research Analyst: UJVIN NEVATIA (PROPRIETOR: NEVAT INVESTMENTS) | SEBI Registration No.: INH100009628

PSB
is evaluating the Qualified Institutional Placement (QIP) route to reduce the Government of India's stake and comply with the Securities and Exchange Board of India's (SEBI) Minimum Public Shareholding (MPS) requirement. The government currently holds 93.85% in the bank, well above the maximum permitted promoter holding of 75% for listed companies. The bank is in discussions with merchant bankers regarding the proposed QIP. While the exact size and timing of the issue have not been finalised, the capital raise is expected to help increase public shareholding while strengthening the bank's capital base to support future business growth. The move forms part of the bank's broader capital-raising strategy, which also includes infrastructure bonds and other debt instruments. Industry & Economic Impact: The proposed QIP reflects the ongoing efforts by public sector banks to comply with SEBI's public shareholding norms while strengthening their capital position. Increasing public float can improve market liquidity, broaden the investor base, and enhance corporate governance standards. From an economic perspective, stronger bank capital enables higher credit growth, supporting lending to businesses, infrastructure projects, MSMEs, and retail customers. Improved access to capital also enhances the banking sector's ability to finance economic expansion while ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements. Source: NDTV Profit No Recommendations

CMS Info Systems Q1 FY27 Earnings Review: Resilient Margins Amidst Market Disruptions

CMSINFO
Financial Highlights CMS Info Systems reported a mixed set of results for the first quarter of FY27, characterized by robust margin expansion amidst temporary top-line headwinds. Consolidated revenue grew marginally by 1.2% year-on-year (YoY) to ₹634.7 crore. Despite operational challenges, the company demonstrated strong profitability at the operating level. EBITDA rose 6.9% YoY to ₹168.8 crore, driving an impressive EBITDA margin expansion of 140 basis points to 26.6% (up from 25.2% in Q1 FY26). However, consolidated Profit After Tax (PAT) declined by 10.6% YoY to ₹83.7 crore, primarily impacted by higher depreciation and external market disruptions. Operational Headwinds & Segment Performance The quarter witnessed the sharpest currency-supply disruption in a decade, which adversely impacted ATM transaction volumes. Cash Logistics: Revenue stood at ₹403 crore (down 3% YoY), with EBIT at ₹81 crore (down 18% YoY). Managed Services & Technology Solutions: Demonstrated strong growth, reporting revenue of ₹305 crore (up 18% YoY). However, segment EBIT contracted by 13% YoY to ₹32 crore, affected by lower BLA transaction revenue and increased depreciation charges. Strategic Wins & Order Book Expansion Despite a seasonally weak quarter, CMS Info Systems achieved substantial business development milestones, securing new orders worth approximately ₹500 crore. Key wins include: An integrated managed services mandate from HDFC Bank. Two product mandates from Public Sector Banks (PSBs) for ~1,000 currency recyclers. Major PSB wins for proprietary Technology & Payment Solutions (HAWKAI Enterprise and ALGO MVS). Market Reaction: Validating the company's core operational strength and robust order pipeline, shares closed up 2.56% at ₹279.95 on the BSE.
