SML Mahindra Ltd Truck and Bus Division for ₹525 crore

SMLMAH
shareholders approved the slump‑sale acquisition of Mahindra & Mahindra’s Truck and Bus Division for ₹525 crore, with 99.99% support from 1.94 million votes polled; e‑voting ended on September 6 and results were declared on September 7. The deal, expected to close in FY27, will consolidate Mahindra Group’s commercial‑vehicle operations above 3.5 tonnes, expand SML’s portfolio and distribution, and is seen as long‑term earnings accretive despite some near‑term margin dilution during integration. Operationally, the company reported August 2026 sales of 1,175 vehicles, up 40% YoY (Cargo +53%, Passenger +31%), and April–August sales up 14% to 8,216 units. Management expects operating margins to recover by Q4 FY27, aided by price hikes and cost actions, and has set a strategic target to lift its CV market share to 10–12% by FY31 (from ~7.2%) and above 20% by FY36, with at least 10% of its bus portfolio electric in a couple of years. Shares have been volatile around ₹6,250–₹6,650 in recent sessions, with a 52‑week high near ₹6,654.

“Why Protecting Capital Supports Long-Term Trading”

Capital is the resource that allows a trader to participate in future opportunities. A single trade should therefore never be allowed to create damage that makes future decision-making difficult. Before entering a position, traders should define the invalidation point, determine the acceptable amount of risk and select a position size that is consistent with their risk plan. This becomes particularly important when market volatility increases because larger price movements can quickly change the risk profile of a position. After a loss, the focus should remain on following the process rather than immediately trying to recover the money. Increasing position size because of frustration can turn a manageable loss into a much larger problem. Similarly, a series of profitable trades should not become a reason to abandon established risk limits. Learning: Capital preservation gives traders the ability to remain disciplined and continue participating when future opportunities appear.

SML MAHINDRA TARGETS 10–12% COMMERCIAL VEHICLE MARKET SHARE

SMLMAH
SML Mahindra Ltd rose 7.5% on September 3 after a senior company executive outlined an ambitious growth strategy for the commercial vehicle segment. The company aims to increase its market share in India’s commercial vehicle market to 10–12% by FY31, up from around 7.2% currently, and plans to cross the 20% mark by FY36. Mahindra & Mahindra acquired a 58.96% controlling stake in SML Isuzu Ltd last year, subsequently renaming the company SML Mahindra Ltd. The company is also targeting a significant shift towards electric mobility. According to a senior executive, SML Mahindra and Mahindra & Mahindra together sold around 16,000 buses last year. The group expects at least 10% of its total bus sales to comprise electric buses within a couple of years of launching its upcoming electric bus portfolio. On the broader commercial vehicle market, the company expects high-single-digit growth in the current financial year. The outlook is supported by replacement demand, particularly in the heavy truck segment, as well as continued momentum in the Indian economy. While the base will be higher in the fourth quarter and partly in the third quarter, for the full year we should still have at least higher single-digit growth. The comments came on the sidelines of an event where Mahindra Truck and Bus, part of the Mahindra Group, unveiled the all-new BLAZO i-TRK, its next-generation heavy commercial truck.

SML Mahindra Shares Surge 7.5% on Ambitious Growth Targets

SMLMAH
Shares of SML Mahindra climbed sharply by about 7.5% on September 3, closing at Rs 5,725, after a senior executive outlined ambitious expansion plans for the commercial vehicle maker. Vinod Sahay, President of Trucks & Buses and Executive Chairman of SML Mahindra, said the company aims to raise its commercial vehicle market share to 10-12% by FY31 from the current 7.2%. Looking further ahead, the firm targets crossing 20% share by FY36. These goals come a year after Mahindra & Mahindra acquired a controlling stake in the former SML Isuzu and rebranded it as SML Mahindra. Sahay also highlighted progress on electrification. The company plans to convert at least 10% of its total bus portfolio to electric vehicles within a couple of years of launching its e-bus range. Combined, SML Mahindra and Mahindra & Mahindra sold around 16,000 buses last year. On the broader market outlook, Sahay expects high single-digit growth in the commercial vehicle segment for the current financial year. He pointed to rising replacement demand, particularly for heavy trucks, and India’s overall economic momentum as key drivers. The comments were made on the sidelines of the launch of Mahindra’s new BLAZO i-TRK heavy commercial truck. Investors responded positively to the clear growth roadmap and electric vehicle ambitions.

Mahindra has launched the BLAZO i-TRK heavy commercial vehicle range in India, with a focus on improving fleet economics through fuel efficiency, uptime and connected technology. Powered by a 7.2-litre mPOWER engine delivering 320 hp and 1,100 Nm of torque, the truck offers up to 10% higher fuel efficiency, with the company estimating potential additional earnings of up to ₹15 lakh per truck over five years. Mahindra also highlighted a 6%–12% fuel-efficiency advantage over competing trucks, while efficiency has improved by up to 15% compared with the earlier BLAZO over the past year. The vehicle comes with a 48-hour uptime guarantee, including compensation of ₹10,000 per day for eligible customers if service restoration exceeds the committed period, along with mQSP service points within 75 km on national highways and 50 km on state highways. Its iMAXX 2.0 platform adds connected features such as vehicle diagnostics, driver monitoring and fleet analytics, while the Parts Supply Guarantee covers 250 critical components with a 24-hour delivery commitment. From a strategic perspective, Mahindra is targeting a 20% market share over the next five years. While the SML Mahindra merger is expected to close in FY27 following the July 29, 2026 board approval. On electric trucks, management indicated that a 500 km-range vehicle could require around 1 tonne of battery capacity, making payload economics an important consideration and suggesting that electrification is currently more suitable for shorter-distance applications.
