UTKARSH SFB — THE TURNAROUND IS THE REAL STORY 🏦📈

UTKARSHBNK
Small banks can grow fast. But the real opportunity comes when loan growth returns, deposits strengthen and asset quality finally begins to recover. Utkarsh Small Finance Bank is at that crossroads. And the latest business update shows a sharp pickup in lending. For Q2 FY27, total disbursements surged 54.9% YoY to ₹3,525 crore. The loan portfolio grew over 7%, signalling improving business momentum. But look beyond the headline. Non-JLG lending is becoming increasingly important. Diversifying beyond Joint Liability Group microfinance can reduce dependence on a single lending segment, provided the new portfolio maintains sound underwriting standards. Deposits also increased around 7% YoY to ₹23,869 crore, while CASA deposits rose 14%. The CASA ratio improved to 21.5%, indicating progress in attracting lower-cost deposits. The potential growth equation is clear: More disbursements → More lending activity More diversified loans → Broader customer base Higher CASA → Potentially better funding mix Lower credit costs → A path toward sustainable profitability But here's the catch. Utkarsh reported a ₹34 crore loss in Q1 FY27, its fifth consecutive loss-making quarter, amid continued asset-quality stress. Stronger disbursements alone do not prove that the turnaround is complete. Investors need to watch gross and net NPAs, collection efficiency, credit costs, recoveries, deposit growth and the pace at which the bank returns to consistent profitability. This is not yet a proven compounding story. It is a high-risk turnaround opportunity where improving operating momentum must translate into better earnings and a healthier balance sheet. If lending growth continues, deposit mobilisation strengthens and credit losses decline, the business could enter a different phase. The first signal is growth. The real confirmation will be profits. Utkarsh's next chapter won't be decided by how fast it lends — but by how well it collects. 🏦📈

Utkarsh Small Finance Bank has shown positive

UTKARSHBNK
Utkarsh Small Finance Bank has shown a meaningful improvement in its operating momentum. The latest Q2 FY27 business update is particularly encouraging: total disbursements jumped 54.9% YoY to ₹3,525 crore, driven largely by growth in non-JLG lending. The total loan portfolio increased 7.5% to ₹20,063 crore, while deposits grew 6.6% to ₹23,869 crore. This is important because the bank had faced significant stress in its microfinance portfolio earlier, which resulted in high credit costs and losses. In Q4 FY26, the net loss had narrowed to ₹188 crore from ₹375 crore in Q3, while gross NPA improved to 7.7%. The bank is also progressing with its amalgamation scheme with Utkarsh CoreInvest Limited, with NCLT proceedings underway. However, investors should remain cautious because asset quality and profitability are still the key concerns; ICRA had cited elevated bad loans, weak earnings and continued stress in the microfinance portfolio when it downgraded the bank's debt ratings in July 2026. Overall: Q2 FY27 is a positive operational signal—stronger disbursements, loan growth and deposit growth—but the real trigger for a sustained re-rating will be whether Utkarsh can convert this growth into lower NPAs, falling credit costs and a return to profitability.

Utkarsh Small Finance Bank – Latest Fundamental Update

UTKARSHBNK
Utkarsh Small Finance Bank (UTKARSHBNK) is showing signs of recovery, but the fundamental picture is still high-risk. In Q1 FY27, the bank reported a net loss of ₹33.9 crore, significantly lower than the ₹239.5 crore loss in Q1 FY26 and ₹188 crore loss in Q4 FY26. The improvement was mainly due to a sharp 73.5% YoY fall in provisions to ₹109 crore. The biggest positive is the improvement in asset quality. GNPA declined to 6.09% from 7.7% in Q4 and 11.42% a year earlier, while NNPA improved to around 2.9%. However, GNPA remains elevated, so the recovery is not yet complete. A major concern is profitability: operating profit fell around 30.6% YoY to ₹63.6 crore, while NII was ₹422 crore. The bank is still dealing with the after-effects of stress in its microfinance/unsecured lending portfolio, which has historically accounted for a significant portion of its loan book.
