$VMM shares tumble 4% after Q1 earnings despite strong profit and revenue growth

Synopsis: $VMM shares came under pressure after the retailer posted healthy June-quarter earnings, as investors reacted to management's commentary that persistent inflation continued to weigh on consumer demand. Shares of $VMM Ltd declined 4% on Thursday after the company announced its Q1 FY27 financial results, despite reporting robust growth in both earnings and revenue. The stock was among the biggest laggards on the BSE Midcap index during afternoon trade. The retail chain has fallen over 20% so far in 2026, underperforming the benchmark Nifty 50 during the same period. The company has a market capitalisation of around ₹50,500 crore. For the quarter ended June 2026, Vishal Mega Mart reported a consolidated net profit of ₹259 crore, up from ₹206 crore in the corresponding quarter last year. Revenue from operations climbed to ₹3,727 crore from ₹3,140 crore a year earlier, reflecting continued business expansion. Gross profit increased to ₹1,068.8 crore, while gross margin improved to 28.7% from 28.4% in the year-ago quarter. However, the company noted that elevated inflation continued to weigh on consumer spending during the June quarter, tempering investor sentiment despite the strong financial performance.
